Created as a part of Pyramid Hill's annual Art and Earth Day celebration, this installation spent several weeks on top of one of the park's many hills, meant to encourage play and the exploration of nature by those visiting the park. "Muddy Palms Cafe" is a boutique version of the very common childhood experience of making mud pies, "soups", or "potions" made from leaves, sticks, flowers, or other ingredients foraged from your backyard or neighborhood. This installation provides some materials (mainly mud, water, and a hand-washing station) and a space for people to craft and display their mud pie creations, reminiscent of a café counter and display case. Made entirely from repurposed and reclaimed materials, "Muddy Palms Cafe" engages with relational aesthetics to encourage all ages to get their hands dirty and play, and to investigate the small, everyday natural elements that often go overlooked.
