A master study of Monet's "Water Lilies", This work was less about being a copy and more an exercise in taking an existing composition and making it my own, while exploring various oil painting techniques. As oil was a new medium to me at the time, I wanted to push the boundaries of my comfort zone without leaving it completely. Looking to an impressionist painter - one of my favorite genres - was one way to do that, as was incorporating mixed media collage elements like paper and fabric.
In addition to collage, I also explored impasto, scumbling,
